CCAC visits top UK comprehensive
…and so to Bishop’s Stortford and Hockerill Anglo-European College, which is rated by The Good Schools Guide as “one of the most successful comprehensives in the country”.
Uniquely, this state school offers boarding accommodation and the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years and Diploma programmes. With a twin focus on its specialisms of languages and music, the College offers a truly distinct setting for a world-class education. As we were guided around the well-appointed campus by two animated students, the opportunities for a genuinely holistic education with freedom to develop personal passions became abundantly clear.
Unsurprisingly Hockerill lists “sustainable development” as one of its five guiding values. The school pledges to tackle national and international issues with its students, and their Year 11 Programme focuses on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Their objective to achieve a carbon-neutral campus, supported by a recent application to install 660 solar panels on its roofs, places green living as a top priority.
CCAC and Hockerill’s shared interest in a broad, creative curriculum and raising awareness of the impacts of climate change has been cemented by two CCAC board members joining Hockerill’s panel of patrons and the College’s enthusiastic endorsement of CCAC’s activities.
