CCAC appoints geographer and educationalist Emma Rawlings Smith as Special Advisor
CCAC is delighted to welcome Dr Emma Rawlings Smith CGeog, FRGS, FHEA to our team of experts.
Emma is a Lecturer in Sustainability and Geography Education at the University of Southampton and leads the PGCE Geography programme, supervises across postgraduate programmes and researches at the intersection of teacher education and geography education.
Emma’s knowledge and professional experience in the fields of Geography, Education and Sustainability will provide valuable insights as CCAC continues to expand in reach and ambition.
Geography is a vital discipline in our quest to educate the young about the impacts of climate change. In the study of geography, we learn about people and place. At the heart of this subject is the drive to understand how the natural environment affects the places where we live. But in increasingly hostile environments, humans must adapt.
Emma’s recent work on place-based education draws on her years of experience in geography, planning and sustainability and shines a light on the very topics CCAC cover in our co-design programmes. Furthermore, as an education professional, Emma will be well-placed to advise on the courses we deliver to primary schools.
We are looking forward to a fruitful collaboration with Emma!
