Springfield children present their concepts for a climate changed future

On Friday 1 December, the CCAC review panel visited Springfield Primary School in Sale, Manchester for the next stage of our co-design project on sustainable living.

Ninety Year 5 children presented ideas for their homes and neighbourhoods in the year 2050.

They were asked to conceive the buildings and settings in three climate extremes – very hot, very cold, or flooded – whilst also meeting net zero carbon criteria, social and regenerative precepts.

The expert review panel was amazed and delighted at the imagination of the children’s designs and their grasp of climate change issues. Several groups performed their presentations to get their ideas across, and another composed a poem to capture the zeitgeist.

Congratulations to Springfield pupils, teachers, and the designers from Levitt Bernstein Architects for embracing both climate science and design creativity to enhance learning.
